How To

Abstract Impressionism

I combined my love for art, stage makeup, and photography here in this abstract impressionism piece.

First I researched abstract impressionism, here is an interesting website on it. Google images is also incredibly helpful.
Then, I drew up a design for how I wanted to use color to represent light and dark. I'm very visual, so having that visual representation and guide really helped me. I couldn't have just started slapping color on my face and made it work.
Then using Ben Nye stage makeup, I mixed my colors and got busy. I started with the light colors first as a base, and then gradually added the dark and blended. My finishing touch was the black lining my eyes, and some of the different colorful streaks over the base.
I photographed myself facing towards natural window light, and a 50mm lens set at 1.6
